Services offered at Stewart Psychiatry:

  • Psychiatric Evaluations

A psychiatric diagnostic evaluation is a comprehensive assessment conducted by a mental health professional to understand a person's mental health symptoms, history, and current functioning. This evaluation helps in diagnosing mental health conditions and creating an appropriate treatment plan tailored to the individual's needs.

  • Medication Management

Psychiatric medication management involves the careful prescription, monitoring, and adjustment of medications to treat mental health conditions such as mood disorders, ADHD, and OCD among others. The goal is to optimize treatment effectiveness, minimize side effects, and ensure the patient’s mental well-being through ongoing evaluation and support.

  • Psychotherapy

Therapy with a psychiatric nurse practitioner involves a collaborative approach to addressing mental health concerns through various therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or interpersonal therapy (IPT). I will work with you to explore emotions, develop coping strategies, and improve mental well-being, often in conjunction with medication management.

  • Emotional Support Animal

An emotional support animal (ESA) is a pet that provides comfort and support to individuals experiencing emotional or psychological challenges, such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD. Unlike service animals, ESAs do not undergo specialized training, but their presence can help alleviate symptoms and provide emotional stability. The key difference is that ESAs are prescribed by a licensed mental health professional as part of a treatment plan, and they can offer companionship, reduce stress, and enhance well-being for those in need.

  • Tele-health appointments

Tele-health appointments are virtual healthcare sessions that allow patients to consult with medical professionals remotely, using video calls, phone calls, or secure messaging platforms. These appointments offer convenience and flexibility, enabling patients to receive care from the comfort of their own home. Tele-health is particularly useful for routine check-ups, mental health therapy, follow-up visits, and managing chronic conditions, making healthcare more accessible and efficient, especially for those with mobility issues or living in remote areas.

  • In person appointments

Beginning in July, I will be offering in-person psychiatric appointments at my new office in Golden, Colorado. This location is easily accessible with free parking available. In-person visits offer the benefit of a more personal connection, the opportunity for focused assessments, and a calm, private setting designed for comfort and confidentiality. Appointments will be available by request for both new and established clients. Telehealth services will remain an option for those who prefer remote care or need greater scheduling flexibility.

Shannon Stewart, DNP, PMHNP-BC

Board Certified Medication Provider

Hey there! I’m Shannon Stewart and am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. My passion lies in working with individuals to improve their mental health, with a particular focus on women’s health, including postpartum depression, anxiety, and OCD. I also have a strong interest in helping those reduce their use of controlled substances, such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, and cannabis. Additionally, I provide basic medication management for conditions including depression, ADHD, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. I strive to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment where patients feel empowered to make informed decisions about their care and treatment options.

Patient Populations

Including those already mentioned I also see those facing challenges related to trauma, PTSD, addiction, and substance use disorders often benefit from psychiatric care. Additionally, people dealing with life transitions, college stressors, life stressors, relationship issues, or difficulties managing chronic health conditions requiring support to improve emotional well-being and coping strategies. Psychiatric help is also essential for transgender individuals navigating gender identity, victims of abuse coping with trauma, people experiencing isolation or social disconnection, and individuals in underserved communities who may face barriers to quality mental health care.

Target Specific Issues

I focus on a collaborative, patient-centered model, ensuring that each person receives the time, attention, and support they need to explore treatment options, ask questions, and make informed decisions about their care. I also prioritize offering helpful resources, such as articles, videos, and books, to support your journey. Whether you're seeking help for anxiety, depression, ADHD, or other mental health concerns, I am committed to helping you achieve a healthier, more fulfilling life.
